The short answer

Yes, with the weight sheet open. The Eura Mobil Vancona starts at €57,400 on a 3.5-tonne Fiat Ducato panel van, but only 84 kg (635) or 118 kg (595 HB) is left for factory options. Take the lithium battery first, and treat the pop-up roof and the 4.25 t uprate as one decision, because the uprate needs a C1 licence for drivers who passed on or after 1 January 1997.

Eura Mobil has a new campervan called the Vancona. It is a Fiat Ducato panel van conversion, it was shown at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf 2026, and the German list price starts at €57,400. The figure that should shape your order, though, is far smaller: 84 kg or 118 kg, depending on layout, which is the maximum mass Eura Mobil allows for factory options before the van runs out of legal room at 3.5 tonnes. Spec it with that number in front of you and it works. Spec it from the brochure and you are quickly into a 4.25-tonne uprate, which for anyone who passed their driving test on or after 1 January 1997 means a C1 licence.

What the Vancona is

The Vancona is Eura Mobil's new panel van range, launched at Caravan Salon Düsseldorf, which ran from 28 August to 6 September 2026. promobil's show report gives the base as the Fiat Ducato 35 L panel van, with 140 PS as standard. Because it keeps the Ducato's own steel body, it is as narrow as the Ducato panel van itself, which is the practical difference between a panel van conversion and a coachbuilt with its own wider habitation body.

promobil's report from the show (31 August 2026) gives the three layouts, the German prices and the weights. All prices are German list prices, which include 19 per cent German VAT, and we are not converting them to pounds because the UK price is not confirmed.

EV 595 HB

5,990 mm long. An electrically adjustable transverse rear bed of 1,850 by 1,500 mm, four belted seats, and a price of €57,400. promobil gives the running weight as 2,911 kg and the maximum mass for optional equipment as 118 kg.

EV 635 EB

6,360 mm long, with two single beds of 1,900 by 800 mm and 1,850 by 820 mm, three belted seats as standard with a fourth optional, and a price of €58,700.

EV 635 HB

Also 6,360 mm, with a transverse rear bed that promobil lists at 1,850 by 1,900 mm, three belted seats as standard with a fourth optional, and the same €58,700 price. For the 635, promobil gives a running weight of 3,021 kg and an options allowance of 84 kg.

The 635s carry three belted seats as standard, driver plus two passengers, with a fourth belted seat as an option. The 595 HB has four designated (belted) travel seats.

What comes as standard

The core standard kit covers the essentials. The items that matter day to day, according to Eura Mobil's Vancona page and promobil's show report:

  • An 84-litre compressor fridge.
  • A two-burner gas hob set into a one-piece mineral worktop.
  • A 4 kW diesel heater with hot water.
  • A 95 Ah gel leisure battery.

A diesel heater means no gas for heating, which simplifies touring, though the hob is still gas.

Why 84 to 118 kg for options matters

Start with the plain payload. On a 3,500 kg plate, the 595 HB's 2,911 kg running weight leaves 589 kg, and the 635's 3,021 kg leaves 479 kg. Those are decent figures for a Ducato camper. So why does Eura Mobil say you can only add 84 or 118 kg of options?

Because maximum mass for optional equipment is not payload. Mass in running order already includes a 75 kg driver, fuel at 90 per cent, and whatever water and gas the maker says it counts. On top of that, type-approval rules set a minimum pay-mass that must stay free: 75 kg for every belted seat besides the driver's, plus luggage at 10 kg per occupant plus 10 kg per metre of vehicle length. The options allowance is the budget left for factory extras after those passengers and that luggage have been set aside. It is not what you, your passengers and your kit can carry; it is what the factory can fit before the standard sums stop working. Eura Mobil's weight notes on its website set out the method: payload is the 3,500 kg plate minus the running-order weight, minus passengers at 75 kg per belted seat (the driver is already counted in the running-order weight), minus factory options. It then caps the options so that the legal minimum payload of 10 x (number of seats + length in metres) kg is always kept. So treat 84 kg and 118 kg as the numbers to plan around.

Two other things are worth understanding. First, EU type-approval allows the actual running-order weight of a motor caravan to differ from the declared figure by up to plus or minus 5 per cent (Regulation (EU) 1230/2012). Five per cent of 2,911 kg is about 146 kg, and that tolerance is why the options cap is set where it is: Eura Mobil says it has limited the maximum weight for options based on those legally permissible fluctuations. If a finished van is still weighed at the end of the production line and falls below the minimum payload, Eura Mobil says it will not ship it until options or belted seats are removed or the plate is raised. Second, water. Eura Mobil's Vancona page gives a fresh-water volume of 25 litres in the travelling position, and a litre of water weighs a kilogram, so ask whether the running-order figure includes those 25 litres.

In practice, 84 kg on the 635 could be used up by a small handful of options; the trouble is you cannot know which until you have the weight of each one. So the rule is simple: ask the dealer for the weight of every option on your order, add them up against the allowance, and take the finished van to a weighbridge with the people and kit you will tour with. Driving over the plated weight is an offence, so this is not paperwork for its own sake.

Uprating to 4.25 t: what it really means

Eura Mobil offers the Vancona at 3.5 tonnes as standard with an uprate to 4.25 tonnes, according to promobil. promobil gives no price for the uprate, so ask what it costs and what it involves. Uprating raises the plated maximum without changing what the van weighs, so the arithmetic jumps: 4,250 kg minus 2,911 kg is 1,339 kg of total payload on the 595 HB, and 4,250 kg minus 3,021 kg is 1,229 kg on the 635. That is 750 kg more to play with, which turns the options question from fraught into relaxed. The catch is everything that comes with the heavier plate.

The licence

A category B car licence covers a motor caravan with a maximum authorised mass of up to 3,500 kg. The rule that lets a category B holder drive up to 4,250 kg in Great Britain, in force since 10 June 2025, applies only to zero-emission vehicles. The Vancona is a diesel, so it does not qualify. At 4,250 kg it needs C1.

If you passed your car test before 1 January 1997, you hold C1 as an acquired right until your 70th birthday; from 70 the licence is renewed every three years, and keeping C1 means renewing by post with a D4 medical each time. If you passed on or after 1 January 1997, you have category B only, and C1 means applying for provisional entitlement (forms D2 and D4, the D4 medical completed by a doctor), then a theory test and a practical test in a suitably heavy vehicle. That is weeks of effort and real money in medicals, tests and lessons, and it belongs in the budget before you tick the uprate box. Anyone who passed during 1997 falls under the on-or-after rule.

Abroad, how EU countries treat a UK category B driver in a 4,250 kg vehicle is not confirmed, and the EU directive that will let category B holders drive motor caravans up to 4,250 kg on any fuel after training applies from 26 November 2029, so it is nothing to plan a 2027 purchase around.

Tax, MOT and speed limits

Vehicle tax gets cheaper, not dearer. A motor caravan over 3,500 kg revenue weight is taxed as a Private HGV (tax class TC10) at £177 a year for 2026 to 2027. At 3,500 kg or under it sits in TC11 at £375 a year for an engine over 1,549 cc, which every Ducato diesel is. Check GOV.UK's rates for motorhomes page for live figures before you quote them to anyone. The MOT does not change: motor caravans are tested in class 4 whatever their weight, from three years old.

Speed limits turn on unladen weight, never the plate. The dividing line is 3.05 tonnes unladen, and unladen weight excludes the driver, fuel and water, so it is lower than the running-order figure. A 635 at 3,021 kg in running order is not over the line just because it is close to 3,050 kg, and a van plated at 4,250 kg can still be under 3.05 tonnes unladen and keep car speed limits. Check the unladen figure on the V5C or the certificate of conformity rather than guessing. Speed cameras enforce the posted limit for the road, not a vehicle-class limit, but the class limit still applies to you.

Clean-air zones and insurance

In London, a motor caravan at or under 3,500 kg gross weight falls under the ULEZ (Euro 6 diesel), while one over 3,500 kg falls under the Low Emission Zone (Euro VI). Put the registration into the official checker rather than assuming. The same applies to England's charging Clean Air Zones (Bath, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Tyneside) and to Scotland's Low Emission Zones in Glasgow, Dundee, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, where the checker at lowemissionzones.scot is the place to look. And tell your insurer the plated weight you end up with; it changes the vehicle they are covering.

Which options to prioritise

promobil's report gives no option weights, so every weight point below is a question for the dealer.

1. The lithium battery (+€1,890)

The standard 95 Ah gel battery is the one item we would upgrade first. The 150 Ah lithium option gives more usable capacity, which matters because the compressor fridge and the diesel heater's fan both run on 12 V. Lithium batteries are also generally lighter than lead-based gel for a given capacity, so this is the rare option that may ease the weight sheet rather than load it. Ask for the figure.

2. The engine (+€1,690 or +€3,510)

The 140 PS Ducato is standard. promobil lists 160 PS at €1,690 and 180 PS at €3,510, with the 180 PS available as an automatic only. At 2.9 to 3.0 tonnes in running order the 140 PS is a common pairing on Ducato campers, and the case for more power is towing or mountain routes. promobil confirms an automatic with the 180 PS; if you want one, ask whether it is offered with the 140 or 160 PS too. If you go for the 180 PS automatic, ask what it adds to the running-order weight, because whatever it adds comes off your allowance.

3. The pop-up roof (+€7,890)

This is the big one in money, and the one whose weight you need before anything else. promobil lists a pop-up roof at €7,890 that adds sleeping space for two, which on the 595 HB would match its four belted seats with four berths. Without its weight you cannot know whether the rest of the allowance survives. Ask for the finished overall height too, for car parks and ferries, and remember that any vehicle over 3 m tall must display its height in the cab.

4. Everything else

Typical extras such as an awning, a bike rack or a towbar each carry a weight on a maker's options list, and on the 635's 84 kg they add up fast. Our suggestion: decide whether you want the pop-up roof first. If yes, treat the 4.25 t uprate as part of the same decision and check your licence before you sign. If no, the standard 140 PS engine adds nothing to the weight sheet, and once you have the lithium battery's figure you will know how much is left for an awning or a rack, with the 3.5 t plate staying on a car licence.

The water tank question

Two sources, two different tanks. promobil reports an 85-litre fresh tank and a 75-litre heated waste tank. Eura Mobil's own English page lists a 138 to 140 litre fresh tank and a 100-litre waste tank, with 25 litres in the travelling position. We cannot tell you which applies to the van you would order, and the difference is not trivial: a full 140-litre tank carries 55 kg more water than a full 85-litre one. Ask the dealer for the tank sizes on the specific build, and ask what water the running-order figure counts.

The clever bits inside

Three details stand out, and they are the reason this is more than a nicely wrapped Ducato.

The table. promobil describes a table that hangs on the wall with no leg, and can be hung outside. No table leg means no shins to bang and no leg to fold away when the dinette converts.

The shower. The screen pivots, so the bathroom is a dry room with a toilet most of the time and a shower when you swing the wall round. In a van as narrow as the Ducato panel van itself, that is how you get a usable shower without losing the corridor.

The beds. promobil reports height-adjustable beds, and the 595 HB's transverse bed is electrically adjustable. Drop it for headroom in bed, raise it for bikes or bulky kit underneath.

The UK picture

Eura Mobil's UK dealer is Motorhomes & Caravans Ltd of Hull, which sells Eura Mobil campervans and listed the previous 595 HB. Eura Mobil is exhibiting at the Motorhome and Caravan Show at the NEC Birmingham from 13 to 18 October 2026, so ask whether the Vancona is on the stand before you travel. A UK price and right-hand drive are not confirmed for the Vancona, and we are not converting the German prices: a UK list price includes 20 per cent VAT, a German one 19 per cent, and the gap between them is specification and exchange rate rather than tax.

If you were tempted to buy in Germany and import, the preferential duty rate under the UK-EU Trade and Cooperation Agreement is 0 per cent for a vehicle of EU origin with an origin declaration from the maker; import VAT at 20 per cent is then charged on the price plus delivery plus any duty. Check the registration requirements with the DVLA before you commit, and weigh that against the dealer route, which gives you local support and, if right-hand drive is confirmed, the steering wheel on the side you want.

Bottom line

The Vancona is a well-equipped, good-looking Ducato campervan at a German list price of €57,400 to €58,700, with a diesel heater and a compressor fridge as standard, plus a clever pivoting shower wall. The 84 to 118 kg options allowance is not a flaw unique to this van; it is what a 3.5-tonne plate leaves on a 2.9 to 3.0 tonne van once passengers, luggage and the 5 per cent weight tolerance are set aside, and Eura Mobil deserves credit for printing it. Spec it sensibly by taking the lithium battery, keeping the 140 PS unless you need more power, and treating the pop-up roof and the 4.25 t uprate as one decision that brings a C1 licence with it for drivers who passed on or after 1 January 1997. Then weigh the finished van. If a UK price lands, it is one to see at the NEC in October.

Common questions

What does maximum mass for optional equipment mean on the Eura Mobil Vancona?

It is the weight budget left for factory options after the EU minimum pay-mass for passengers (75 kg per belted seat) and luggage (10 kg per occupant plus 10 kg per metre of length) has been set aside. It is not the payload you can carry. promobil gives it as 118 kg for the 595 HB and 84 kg for the 635 at the standard 3.5 t plate.

Do I need a C1 licence to drive the Vancona uprated to 4.25 tonnes?

If you passed your car test on or after 1 January 1997, yes: category B covers up to 3,500 kg, and the 4,250 kg rule for category B applies only to zero-emission vehicles, which a diesel Vancona is not. Drivers who passed before 1 January 1997 hold C1 as an acquired right until 70.

How much does the Eura Mobil Vancona cost in the UK?

A UK price is not confirmed, and nor is right-hand drive. promobil's German list prices are €57,400 for the EV 595 HB and €58,700 for the EV 635 EB and 635 HB, including 19 per cent German VAT. Eura Mobil's UK dealer is Motorhomes & Caravans Ltd of Hull.

Which Vancona layout seats the most people on the move?

The EV 595 HB has four belted travel seats. Both 635 layouts, the twin-bed EB and the transverse-bed HB, have three belted seats as standard, with a fourth available as an option, according to promobil.

How big is the Vancona's fresh water tank?

The sources disagree. promobil reports 85 litres fresh and 75 litres waste, while Eura Mobil's own English page lists a 138 to 140 litre fresh tank with a 25 litre travelling position and a 100 litre waste tank. Ask the dealer which applies to the build you order.

Does uprating the Vancona to 4.25 t change its speed limits?

Not by itself. UK speed limits for motor caravans depend on unladen weight, with the line at 3.05 tonnes, not on the plated weight. Unladen weight excludes driver, fuel and water, so it is lower than the 2,911 to 3,021 kg running-order figures; check it on the V5C.

The reachable bit

The camper you fall for is rarely the one you can afford. That gap is the whole reason Campervan.win exists. Right now we’re giving away the Sunlight Vanlife, worth around £65,000, and closing that gap is the point: capped entries so the odds stay honest, £10 a ticket, a maximum of five per person, £500 to a UK charity from every full draw, the winner picked by a public randomness beacon anyone can re-check, and one person driving away in the van itself.
